2017 has most certainly been the year of the mask, so of course, we thought we’d jump on the bandwagon and give the most raved about face mask a go – a DIY charcoal peel off face mask.

If you hop on the internet, you will find hundreds of different at-home recipes but we decided on the simplest one we could find, with only 3 ingredients – water, Agar Agar powder and of course activated charcoal powder.

So what’s all the hype about activated charcoal powder you ask? Well, this bad boy is perhaps best known for pulling toxins and dirt out of the skin.

Agar Agar powder is used simply for the satisfaction of peeling the mask off. This powder is a great substitute for all our vegan, vegetarian and animal-loving friends out there who don’t want to use gelatine. So not only does this mask leave you feeling great, it’s also cruelty-free, just like the entire Modere range!

Last but not least, water is used for combining all the ingredients and activating the Agar Agar powder for the consistency needed to peel off the mask – obviously the best part!

To start with, put on something you don’t mind getting a little dirty in, as this can be a little messy. Having an old towel close by is a good idea.

Mix ½ a cup of boiled water and 1 teaspoon of Agar Agar powder and whisk together then add a ¼ of a teaspoon of activated charcoal powder, mix again and let the mixture cool.

We used #18 Brush from our Brush Collection to apply it evenly. Avoid the eye area and hairline when applying and once finished, leave the mask on for around 15 minutes or until dry. Your face will feel tight, so try and relax your face muscles so the mask doesn’t crack. It’s also the perfect time to flip through our digital magazine, This Clean Life!

Peel the mask off and hydrate with our Night Cream Dry Skin for skin as smooth as a baby’s bottom!
